Panama is a regional hub of trade and immigration. The resulting cultural cocktail forges a refreshing ‘anything goes’ attitude, more dynamic and fluid than its neighbors. Each year, over a million people visit the Panama Canal and are able to witness this engineering marvel at work. Panama City is the most cosmopolitan capital in Central America. It is both a vibrant metropolis and a gateway to tropical escapes.

It is the ideal location to discuss a pressing global concern: the rise of populism that is paving the road towards protectionism.

The Economic Freedom of the World Network Meeting in Panama City on September 7-9, 2018 will focus on The Free Market Response to Populism. Here, our approach cannot be “anything goes.”

Conference registration is until 15 July 2018. The fee is USD 160, which will cover conference materials and meals. Papers are invited especially on the topic, but papers on any topic related to the nature, measurement, causes, and consequences of economic freedom will be considered. Paper titles and abstracts should be submitted to Fred McMahon at fred.mcmahon@fraserinstitute.org by 7 August.

The event Hosted by Fundacion Libertad and The Frasier Institute. Download the EFN Panama Invitation for more details.
